8 Reasons You’ll Never Want to Leave Dublin 8

When moving to Dublin, most people want to live close to the city, yet within easy reach of the road networks. This may seem contradictory, but Dublin 8 offers just that.

The city centre is within walking distance, and the N4 and N7 both converge at Inchicore. Once you settle in your Dublin 8 property, it’s a special place you’ll never want to leave. Here are eight reasons why:

1. The Best Parks in the City

The Phoenix Park is the obvious choice, with 1750 acres to explore. The park is home to Dublin Zoo, where an annual guest pass is some of the best money you’ll spend. The War Memorial Gardens is one of Dublin’s best-kept secrets. It has beautiful walks along the river, facing the rowing clubs, and the rose gardens on either side of the war memorial monument offer tranquillity.

2. Great Pubs

From Lucky’s and the Thomas House in the Liberties to The Saint in Inchicore, Dublin 8 has some great bars. The Royal Oak in Kilmainham has the unforced feel of a country pub where you can enjoy a quiet, restful pint. The Circular in Rialto has a great atmosphere with a Pub Quiz every Wednesday night.

3. Mega and Micro-Breweries

Why stop at pubs when you can have breweries on your doorstep? The Guinness Brewery is the most famous brewery, with the Gravity Bar surveying the city. Lesser known is Rascals in Inchicore, where Rascals craft beers and stouts are produced. Rascals has a taproom, pizzeria, tours, and even its own Oktoberfest.

4. Wonderful Restaurants

From Bastible in Portobello to Kari in Inchicore, Dublin 8 is home to a wonderful selection of both fine and casual dining. The Locks on the canal and Variety Jones on Thomas Street offer award-winning fine dining experiences. La Dolce Vita and I Monelli are charming candle-lit Italian restaurants.

5. Brunch Central

Brunch in Dublin 8 is serious business with so many wonderful options to choose from. From Groundstate’s famous Brioche Brekkie Bun to Riggers’ legendary Croque Madame, Dublin 8’s brunch spots are always pushing boundaries.

6. Waterways

Dublin is nicely wedged between the River Liffey in the north and the Grand Canal in the south. Between the two, there are some scenic urban walks, making it an idyllic way to travel to and from work.

7. Cultural Capital

Many consider Dublin 8 to be Dublin’s historic quarter. In Kilmainham alone, there is the Royal Hospital and Kilmainham Gaol. These attractions aren’t just for tourists; they are accessible to all. The Royal Hospital Kilmainham also acts as a great outdoor venue, hosting Wellfest every year.

8. Transport Links

The LUAS Red Line works its way through Dublin 8 from Heuston Station, through St James’s Hospital, along the canal, and to the Blackhorse in Inchicore. The Red Line connects Dublin 8 with the city centre and the Docklands. One of the new bus routes will go from Liffey Valley to the city centre, passing right through Dublin 8. This should alleviate traffic on the route and make the city centre even more accessible.

Let’s not forget about the cyclists, with quality cycle lanes on the Grand Canal and the River Liffey. Cycling in Dublin 8 is safe and enjoyable. You don’t even need to own a bike, with 24 Dublin Bike stations stretching from Kilmainham Gaol to Dublin Castle.
